we can open them up to even more diverse use, safe uses of our roads. and certainly our bicycle enthusiasts have a great contribution to that as i saw on grand beach and chinatown. when you close from tower to bush street and allow the people to get out there, you can see some fantastic results and we're going to patiently wait for the statistics to show us how much that impact was. but i want to simply welcome you here today and to put something in context they know will be exciting for us. you know that bicycle travel has increased over 60% since 2006. and that if we are to make sure that our goal of bicycle trips of being 20% of every trip that is in our city to be 20% by 2020, we're going to have to work a lot harder. we're going to have to educate more people. we're going to have to bring a lot more people under the tent, and we're going to have to understand how leadership and education and enforcement wor together with a cultural change that we have to produce in our city. we are, not only in name, a transit-first city. we also want to make sure

we try to encourage the use of alternative transportation. 71% of our staff can use sustainably. almost four million a year of our tenants drive. most of those folks are from outside of san francisco county. we ask that we keep in mind that parking is at a premium bid to a degree, it does feel like we are dividing up crumbs when it comes to five spaces vs seven, but it is important. also, the average length of stay for our guests is about four and half hours. putting parking limits on the weekends may not serve anyone's interests. we have those in our staff that do drive. oftentimes they are our front- line staff. they live in the city via the use lunch breaks to try to find another parking spot, which is counterproductive. also, we wanted to share that visitors have said parking is their biggest turn off. we want to make sure that we keep in mind the 70% of our visitors -- 70% of our operating income -- income, and the operating impact on people with jobs and parking in the neighborhoods will be felt. with that, we thank you for listening, and we support this project. thank you.

bicycles who did not use them before. the pricing is such that you would not take it to run across the golden gate bridge, ride it out to sausalito. that is where the core of the business comes from the operators on the waterfront. my hope is it not compete because of the pricing structure. but also, my suspicion is it will actually increase business for the rental companies because people will be introduced to bicycling for $5 and they will see is something that is not so scary after all. then they will be more likely to rent a bike for eight hours and do that longer trip. >> i assume liability will be dealt with? >> absolutely. that is everybody's first concern. i have been working with the city attorney, the port attorney. we have an interagency agreement between the five agencies i mentioned and a lot of the language in there is about mutual indemnification, holding people harmless. there will be a waiver. really, the city and port will not be a party to the contract with the vendor, and we will not own the bicycles.
